About Madeline Santos
1. Please describe yourself in a few sentences.
Since I was little, I have always aimed for the stars. I excelled through school, putting endless hours into homework and even putting in the effort to understand subjects that I had no interest in because I would be disappointed in myself for not trying. I believed that if you put your mind to it, you will succeed. I have always had this passion for learning and doing new things, which is why I enjoy reading the news and doing adventurous activities, such as treetop trekking. Food is my ultimate passion, prior to learning. In my spare time, I am flipping through cookbooks, watching shows about food, cooking, trying new foods, and talking about food.
2. What is your tutoring approach? Give us your history working with students
My tutoring approach is first bonding with the student so that he/she trusts me to help him/her. Then I begin learning or identifying the student's strengths and weaknesses to figure out how I can help with what he/she is struggling with. I often use a variety of methods to help the student understand a subject, including different examples, visual learning, and quizzing to ensure that he/she truly understands.
3. How long have you been a tutor for? What do you most enjoy about it?
My tutoring experience lasted for under a year. I was a peer tutor at the college level with a focus on English, writing, editing, research, referencing, and grammar. I loved so many things about tutoring. I loved getting to know so many students, both local and international. I loved when students would update me on their improved marks after me helping them. I loved when students felt relief after finally understanding something. Most importantly, I loved feeling like I made a difference in that student's life.
