About Marie Flanagan
1. Please describe yourself in a few sentences.
Marie is a dynamic and enthusiastic educator. Her experiences range from positions in recreation, early childhood education, public and private school settings. Being able to care for, inspire, and teach children and youth has always been her passion. She feels that her nurturing and energetic personality will greatly benefit her future students.
2. What is your tutoring approach? Give us your history working with students
Marie has experience teaching in an inquiry-based way. This approach allows students to be creative, ask questions, and have their voices and thoughts heard. In addition, she also values authentic learning which allows students to make more connections to concepts they are learning (for example, using real money to learn the concepts of adding and subtracting).
3. How long have you been a tutor for? What do you most enjoy about it?
Marie has taught in a classroom setting for the past 3 years, since graduating from her Bachelor of Education. She is pursuing her Masters of Arts in Counselling Psychology and is looking for part-time teaching work as she completes a practicum placement. What she enjoys most about teaching is witnessing the growth a child can make.
